Pioneer Family Unit Study: A historical context journey
This is a FAMILY UNIT - if you would like an age specific unit, they are available by age in the shop. Links will be at the bottom of this description.
In this My Texas Homeschool book inspired unit (for The Long Winter & Winter in the Big Woods) you will study how pioneers lived in the 1850s-1880s in the United States, using a variety of books by or inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The unit is clearly divided into sections for each age group that may be in your home:
Ages 3-5: readings on food supply, suggested picture books, and fun cut and paste activities!
Ages 6-8: map out a pioneer journey and learn about homestead chores if you were alive in the pioneer era.
Ages 9-10: Study all of the above plus do research on the Homestead act of 1862!
Ages 11+: You can use all of the above resources and also have a research terms section to use as you think through terms like context, research, and supporting a thesis.
Whole family activity: Print and play the pioneer game Fox & Geese!
This unit is a wonderful complement to Peaceful Press’ Pioneers curriculum, or a great stand alone project if you’re in the middle of studying this fascinating time in history.
Please download your PDF immediately upon receiving it, email hello@mytexashomeschool.com if you need a replacement PDF! Thank you.
