Bilingual Gift Guide
When it comes to Spanish language gifts it’s nice to meet two guidelines:
It is something my children will enjoy?
The gift serves a purpose - whether that be learning the target language, or having fun in the target language I don’t want something that will collect dust.
We do buy our kids more than just educational items (Let’s be honest, I am THAT mom) but we will have more gift guides this week for Gaming & Technology, Homeschool Organization, and more!
You can click on the image below to pull up a clickable image, or read on to see why I chose these specific items.
Spanish Collective Holiday Collection
When you first search online for Spanish language resources you will find mostly flash card sets and loteria boards. We love loteria and my kids play it constantly with their grandparents. However, I don’t really want to spend $20+ on one set of flashcards. Buying digital resources makes for a sweet little stocking stuffer here and there (like a fun holiday loteria set).
If your child has a really pronounced interest in something, like baking, buy a digital resource on that subject along with a physical gift so you can practice new vocabulary while doing something fun, together. You’ll be supporting small businesses and creating memories together, all while learning Spanish.
This collection has 17 resources for $15, and I will only print and use what we want to use - that’s the beauty of digital vs. a hard purchased game or flashcard set.
Baking Set
I have one child who loves baking, and is finally old enough to leave the realm of baking toys. A kids size baking set fits the bill, and gives them ownership of the work they want to do in the kitchen! I will of course slip in vocabulary, but who minds discussing the name for cookies in Spanish when you’re eating them too!
South America Puzzle
My kids love puzzles, and for some reason they really like geography puzzles. This is a great way to learn countries and practice Spanish. My son just finished an introduction to South American history, so this would be a great addition to our collection. (We have a North American Continent puzzle already.)
A book you know and love
There are a few books my children memorized and haven’t outgrown - Dragons love Tacos by Adam Rubin is one of them. We own several books in Spanish, but the ones my kids love reading the most are the ones they already know by heart. A book we have in both languages is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. But maybe it’s time to add Dragones y Tacos to my collection…
Music & Songbooks
Leave it up to me, and I’ll be asking for old CDs from the 90s (Mana, Bacilos, Shaki, etc…) but for my kids, especially my youngest, she loves music books. We were gifted a set of Coco Learns Spanish songbooks and she adores them. She often lays in bed listening to them before going to sleep. They cover so many of the classic songs like De colores or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, in Spanish. I’ve found these audio books to be helpful to me by letting me join my daughter in her activity instead of having me lead or initiate singing songs together.
Metallic Bingo Chip Set
So I have saved the best for last. You may wonder why this is the best - as a parent, it makes playing games with tiny pieces so much easier to clean up. For kids though? This giant magnet with magnetized bingo chips is an endless source of imagination. My children (all four of them) played obsessively with this when I got them one. They made play food with them, played bingo and loteria with them, and we use them for lots of other games and activities too.
If you’d like a Spanish language freebie, you can always sign up for my email list - but you can also visit the Spanish Collective Holiday Collection and check out the many resources included. We will be hosting one freebie a week for each week of the sale.
Several items listed are Amazon affiliate links, where I would receive a small commission at no expense to you were you to purchase a product through one of my links. Thank you for supporting My Texas Homeschool’s free content in this way!
